03-NOVEMBER-2024 - THE POWER OF ROUTINES AND RITUALS

THE MAIN THEME: HOW DO I GET TO WHERE I AM GOING?

TITLE: THE POWER OF ROUTINES AND RITUALS

The bible verse for today’s devotional is: Mark 1:35 (NIV)

Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.

Devotional:

What do you do in the first hour of waking up?

In our busy world, it is easy to wake up to the sound of the alarm and dash through the door trying to get a lot done before we leave home or log on to our devices, but as you can tell doing this over and over will lead to burnout.

Successful people in all walks of life have a common practice; they have routines. Bright and intelligent minds doing great and marvellous works such as Praise Fowowe, Oprah Winfrey, Aliko Dangote, Bill Gates all have certain routines and rituals that support their physical and mental well being and growth, and other life goals.

Getting on our life’s assignment (whatever that may be for you at this time) will require grit and much patience. Routines and rituals do not only offer a beautiful recipe for divine connection and refueling, they help you to plan, prevent distractions and accomplish goals.

Practices such as meditation and prayer, journaling our thoughts or writing a gratitude list, exercise, listening to motivational podcasts, reading a book, and so on, can offer us an opportunity to catch our breath, reflect on what is working or not working, and rechannel our energies to be able to go at life maximally.

Here are a few reflective questions:

  • Can I identify which routine and ritual will support my goals?
  • Can I identify which routine and ritual will not support my goals?
  • What is my plan to replace unhelpful practices with routines that will support my goals?

 Let us pray:

Dear God, I ask for the grace to be disciplined and commit to helpful routines that can support my goal in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Please say these words of affirmation. Say them, mean them, own them and live them:

  • My routines will get me to where I am going
  • I am disciplined and focused.
  • I am committed to my routines.

I hope your day is well planned? Take good care of yourself and see you tomorrow!

02-NOVEMBER-2024 - DRIVING WITH A FLAT TIRE

THE MAIN THEME: HOW DO I GET TO WHERE I AM GOING?

TITLE: DRIVING WITH A FLAT TIRE

The quote for today’s devotional is:

Bad attitude is like a flat tire, you can't go anywhere until you change it. - Unknown

Devotional:

One essential tool that we must pack in our ‘bags’ as we embark on our journey toward greatness is the tool of the right attitude. Just like a flat tire stalls your road trip, a bad attitude stalls your life. It's hard to make progress when you're carrying negativity. Fix your mindset and attitude, and you'll accelerate towards your goals.

A story is told of how Thomas Edison lost most of his life’s work in a fire incident in 1914. He was already 67 years old at this time, and could have chosen to simply retire; rather than do this, he calmly responded ‘I will start again tomorrow’ and so he did!

Today, several years after, that story has been told over and over as it shows that with clarity of purpose, one can choose to see with optimism the obstacles that will come as we journey along, as learning opportunities; as the glass being ‘half full rather than half empty’ and knowing that whatever the challenges may be, if we choose to maintain a positive attitude (which does not deny that we are hurt but says, “despite this pain, I will go on”), recalibrate and try again, we will surely reach our glorious destinies.

Here are a few reflective questions:

  • Think of a time when something didn’t go as planned because of your attitude, how did you feel? How did you respond?
  • What can you do to remind yourself to remain calm in the face of adversity?

Let us pray:

Dear God, please grant me the courage to trust that you will work everything out for my good always in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Please say these words of affirmation. Say them, mean them, own them, and live them:

  • I have the right attitude to get me to where I am going.
  • I am unstoppable
  • I have what it takes to succeed
  • All things are working for my good.

Do have a fulfilling day. Take good care of yourself and see you tomorrow!

01-NOVEMBER-2024 - CLEAN YOUR HOUSE

THE MAIN THEME: HOW DO I GET TO WHERE I AM GOING?

TITLE: CLEAN YOUR HOUSE

The bible verse for today’s devotional is:  1 Corinthians 6:19 (NIV)

“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own.”

Devotional:

Jody had joined other teenagers to help declutter the homes of some elderly couples in church. The church was having a garage sale to raise funds for charity work. It was truly a remarkable experience as they gathered many items from these homes.

In one small house, Jody and her friends had brought out a whole room of items - old wedding gifts still wrapped up, baby cots and highchairs, old sets of cookware, and tons of clothes, some with their tags still on them. She wondered why people would keep so many things they would never use.

Just as she thought about this, she remembered that she too had clothes that still hung in her closet from two Christmases ago, which she had never worn as she didn’t like them. Suddenly, she realized how easy it is to accumulate things and not even know when they are so much, they eventually get in our way.

But we don’t just accumulate physical items, sometimes we feed our bodies with so many unhealthy things that end up causing us health issues or we accumulate negative thoughts, unhealthy relationships, beliefs, and attitudes that we can tell are not helping but we refuse to let them go.

Just as the physical things take up space and stuff out good space in our homes, unhealthy meals, relationships, mental garbage can slow us down or outrightly take us off track.

"Embrace a fresh start today! Take time to declutter your living space and rejuvenate your body, while also clearing your mind of any burdens. By letting go of what holds you back, you'll unlock the freedom to propel yourself forward on your path to achieving greatness."

Here are a few reflective questions:

  • What do I need to clean up?
  • Where do I need to clean up?
  • Who do I need to clean out of my life
  • How do I clean all these up?

Let us pray:

Dear God, please give me the discipline I need to clean my house - physically and mentally so I can move forward with ease in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Please say these words of affirmation. Say them, mean them, own them and live them:

  • My cleanliness will get me to where I am going.
  • My body is the temple of God
  • I am clean - free from unhealthy foods, thoughts, relationships and practices.

Do have a de--cluttering day. Take good care of yourself and see you tomorrow!

31-OCTOBER-2024 - OPPORTUNITIES - POOR OR CEPO

THE MAIN THEME: WHAT DO I HAVE?

TITLE: OPPORTUNITIES:  POOR (Passing Over Opportunities Repeatedly) OR CEPO (Carefully Exploring Possible Opportunities)

The bible verse for today’s devotional is: Luke 23: 39-43 (NIV)

One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: “Aren’t you the Messiah? Save yourself and us!” But the other criminal rebuked him. “Don’t you fear God,” he said, “since you are under the same sentence? We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.” Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.

Devotional:

Opportunity can be defined as an appropriate or favorable time or set of circumstances, occasions, situations or conditions that make it possible for you to do what you want or have to do.

In other words, opportunities are directly linked to time and circumstances.  It also indicates that only a person with discernment or right perspective can identify opportunities and maximize them.

Today, we read from our bible text that Jesus was crucified in between two criminals. While one railed curses on him, mocking and accusing him for claiming to be a savior but could not save himself and them, the other criminal rebuked him. He was able to interpret their situations, recognizing that they are paying for the sins they had committed.  He was able to discern that Jesus was unjustly being punished because he had done nothing wrong, and he seized the opportunity to secure his eternal rest in God’s kingdom. The request Jesus granted immediately.

We have opportunities thrown at us every now and then, the problem is in our ability to identify them as such. Now that you have an opportunity to study, how are you maximising the time and energy, how many self-development books have you read, how much time do you invest in fostering your creativity. Remember, opportunities are time-bound, and once lost may not be redeemable. Be mindful, be observant, be wise!!

Here are a few reflective questions:

  1.   In what areas have I been passing over opportunities repeatedly without recognizing them?
  2.     In what ways have I allowed distorted perceptions to cloud my ability to identify opportunities?
  3.       What opportunities are right before me now that I need to utilize?

Let us pray

Lord thank you for your word to me today, I receive grace to carefully explore possible opportunities that you will bring my way so that I will not miss your timing and seasons of visitations in my life in Jesus’s name Amen

Please say these words of affirmation: Say them mean, own them and live them

  • I know what I have.
  • By the spirit I recognize possible opportunities in my life today.
  • I have the gift of right perspectives to circumstances.
  • I maximize all opportunities that are open to me.

Enjoy your day and see you tomorrow

30-OCTOBER-2024 - TIME - MAKING THE MOST OF EVERY MOMENT

THE MAIN THEME: WHAT DO I HAVE?

TITLE: TIME: MAKING THE MOST OF EVERY MOMENT

The quote for today’s devotional is:
"Do not squander time, for that is the stuff life is made of."

– Benjamin Franklin

Devotional

Time is a precious gift. Once it’s gone, we can never get it back. Every moment we have is an opportunity to grow, learn, and make an impact. Benjamin Franklin understood the value of time, famously stating, "Lost time is never found again." Benjamin Franklin, a renowned statesman and inventor, is known for his disciplined time management and famous quote, “Lost time is never found again.” He serves as a great example of using time wisely.

Like Franklin, we should be intentional in how we use our time, focusing on things that truly matter. God encourages us in His Word to make the most of every day, living purposefully and with a heart of wisdom. Life moves quickly, and how we spend our time will determine the legacy we leave behind. Time waits for no one.

Here are a few reflective questions:

  1. How am I currently using my time? Are my activities aligned with my goals and values?
  2. What distractions are keeping me from using my time wisely? How can I minimize or eliminate them completely.?
  3. In what ways can I  be more intentional in making the most of every moment?
  4. How can I ensure that I am investing time in what matters most to God?

 LET US PRAY:

Dear Lord, help me to value the time You have given me. Teach me to use each moment wisely and purposefully. Guide my steps and remind me to focus on what truly matters, so I may live a life that honours You. Amen.

Please say these words of affirmation. Say them, mean them, own them and live them:

  • I know what I have.
  • I value the gift of time and commit to using it wisely.
  • I focus on what truly matters, trusting God to guide my days.
  • I choose to be intentional, making the most of every moment to fulfill my purpose and live a life of meaning.

Have a fulfilling day. Take good care of yourself and see you tomorrow!
