19-AUGUST-2024 - FINDING PURPOSE IN TIMES OF UNCERTAINTY

MAIN THEME IS: WHY AM I HERE?

TITLE: FINDING PURPOSE IN TIMES OF UNCERTAINTY

The bible verses for today’s devotional are: Luke 1:30-32 & Romans 8:28 (NIV)

“But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David”

 and

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

Devotional:

I am sure you are wondering why this Christmas story in August? This story has lessons that are beyond just one season.

Mary was told by the angel that she would birth the saviour of the world - JESUS. Apart from the awkwardness of being pregnant before marriage and having to face the curious stares and whispers in the neighborhood, she also had to give birth in a smelly barn. I won’t be surprised if a part of her must have wondered.. “How is this a fantastic opportunity? How is all of this a good thing?” The Bible does not say that she had ready answers...but she chose to keep going- she chose to trust God. To keep doing her best as she waits to see the fulfilment of God’s promise.

Our second bible verse reminds us that……all things work together for good to those who love God.

In life there will be several opportunities to question our faith, sometimes even when we have done all the right things, things will still not fall into place as we had hoped. That is an opportunity to take a step higher on the ‘trust God’ ladder. It won't be easy, but that is the safest place to be…to rest, and trust that God will make something good come out of the mess. It won't be easy but it's worth it.

Here are a few reflective questions:

  • In the last week or month, what uncertainty have I been worried about?
  • What three things am I grateful for despite the troubles?
  • What practical steps can I take to move forward despite the uncertainties?

Let us pray:

Dear God, I thank you because you are the God of impossibilities. Help me trust you to work all things for my good despite what I am going through in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Please say these words of affirmation. Say them, mean them, own them and live them

  • I am here because God is with me, I am not alone.
  • Greater is He who is in me.
  • All things are working for my good.

Always remember, you are not alone. Take good care of yourself and see you tomorrow.

18-AUGUST-2024 - LASTING LEGACY

MAIN THEME IS: WHY AM I HERE?

TITLE: LASTING LEGACY

The quote for today’s devotional is:

A good character is the best tombstone.  Those who loved you and were helped by you will remember you when the forget-me-nots have withered.  Carve your name on hearts, not on marble.”  – Charles Spurgeon

Devotional

Legacy means something that is passed on.  Legacies are meant to be something of impact that leave pathways and provide guidance for future generations.

There are different types of legacies:

  • monetary or personal tangible assets
  • example set for others to guide their futures through one’s character, reputation and the life you lead.
  • one’s faith and values

Leaving a lasting legacy isn’t about fame or fortune but about making a positive impact on others. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s fight for justice and equality continues to inspire people today.

His legacy wasn’t built overnight but through consistent acts of courage, kindness, and faith.

Your legacy is shaped by the choices you make every day. How you treat others, the values you uphold, and the kindness you show all contribute to the legacy you’ll leave behind. Remember, your actions today can inspire and bless others for generations to come.

Here are a few reflective questions:

  1. Proverbs 10:7 reminds us that a righteous life leaves a lasting blessing. Am I living a righteous life?
  2. What legacy am I preparing to pass on?
  3. How can I start building my legacy through positive actions today?

Let us pray:

Dear Lord, help me to discover why I am here, and please give me the courage to build a lasting legacy while living my purpose. Amen!

Please say these words of affirmation. Say them, mean them, own them and live them

  • I am here to build a lasting legacy of kindness, faith, and positive impact.
  • I will make a difference with lasting impact.

Do have an amazingly impactful day. I’ll see you tomorrow.

16-AUGUST-2024 - CHARTING MY COURSE AND PATH

MAIN THEME IS: WHY AM I HERE?

TITLE: CHARTING MY COURSE AND PATH

The bible verse for today’s devotional is: JOSHUA 24:15 (NIV)

”But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord”

Devotional:

A sailor’s responsibility is to navigate his ship from one point to another. His fundamental tool is the chart, which is a representation of the earth’s surface with notations that help him carry out this task. With the help of a chart, he can establish the course that will bring his ship to its destination.

As faith based people, the navigational chart for our journey in life is the word of God.  The word of God contains the facts, rules, routines, boundaries, template, guidelines, and roadmap we need in order to establish the right course for our life.  It is our spiritual compass showing us how to live and walk uprightly.

Charting one's course and path in life is never done on a group WhatsApp call, it is a personal decision either to walk with God or to walk according to the dictates of the world.

Here are a few reflective questions:

  1. Family: what does family mean to you, what roles and responsibilities are expected of you?
  2. Friendship/relationships; how do you choose your friends? Do they have the same values as you?
  3. Your spirituality: How is your relationship with God? Are you proud or ashamed of the gospel of Christ?
  4. Career/Education: Do you know what you want to become? Do you believe in the path taking you there? Do you believe in hard work, patience and resilience or do you believe in cutting corners?

Chart your course wisely today and always.

Let us pray

Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths, Amen

Please say these words of affirmation. Say them, mean them, own them and live them

  • I am here because I am on a journey to my destination.
  • I will not allow distractions (mention them)

Do have an amazing day. Take good care of yourself, I’ll see you tomorrow.

15-AUGUST-2024 - LESSONS FROM BEN CARSON TEENAGE YEARS

MAIN THEME IS: WHY AM I HERE

TITLE: LESSONS FROM BEN CARSON TEENAGE YEARS

The bible verse for today’s devotional is: Prov 22:29  (NIV)

“Do you see someone skilled in their work? They will serve before kings; they will not serve before officials of low rank.”

Devotional:

Ben Carson is one of the best world neurosurgeons. When he was young, he had quite a number of things not going well for him:

  1. He was abandoned by his father who left his mother and elder brother Curtis to join another family he had kept as a secret from them.
  2. He was a laughingstock among his peers and was called a class dummy because of his poor performance.

Despite Ben and his brother’s poor performance, their mother, though disappointed, was not deterred. She prayed for guidance and a solution for their excellent performance and the rest is history.

Here are a few of the lessons from Ben Carson’s teenage years:

  1. Determination:   His story reveals that determination and hard work can help overcome difficult circumstances and adversity.
  2. Obedience: Ben listened to his mum who advised him to spend more time reading books and seeking knowledge.
  3. Resilience and persistence:  Ben’s resilience and persistence yielded results contrary to reports given by his teachers.
  4. Goal Oriented: Ben was focused.  His motivation was the need to help humanity and the fulfilment of his childhood dream of being a missionary doctor.
  5. Spiritual: Ben has a good relationship with God.
  6. Self-Awareness: Carson understood very early who he was. He once almost joined a robbery gang but then remembered who he was and ran back home and promised himself never to derail again.

Ben Carson’s life demonstrates that with the right mindset, support, and dedication, one can overcome significant challenges and achieve great success irrespective of our background.

Here are a few reflective questions:

  • Have I ever thought my background will promote or hinder my progress?
  • What mindset do I have towards life?
  • Am I an obedient child?

Let us pray:

Thank you Lord for you have shown me an example in Ben Carson. Help me to embrace and demonstrate commitment to achieve greatness in life. Amen

Please say these words of affirmation. Say them, mean them, own them and live them

  • I am here because I am on a mission.
  • I am determined to succeed.

Be determined, Stay focused. Have a beautiful day. I’ll see you tomorrow.
