18-NOVEMBER-2024 - WIND BENEATH MY SAILS (THE IMPORTANCE OF SUPPORT)

THE MAIN THEME: HOW DO I GET TO WHERE I AM GOING?

TITLE:  WIND BENEATH MY SAILS (THE IMPORTANCE OF SUPPORT)

The bible verse for today’s devotional is: Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 (NIV)

"Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up."

Devotional

Having the right support system—friends and family—is like having wind beneath your sails. It keeps you going when the journey gets tough. Think of people like Malala Yousafzai, whose family and supporters helped her stand strong in her fight for education. Without their encouragement, her journey might have been much harder.

Think about Moses and Aaron. Moses wasn’t a great speaker, but Aaron supported him by speaking for him. Together, they accomplished God’s mission. Just like Moses needed Aaron, you need the support of friends and family to help you on your journey.

Ecclesiastes reminds us that we’re stronger together. The right friends and family can lift you up when you’re down and help you reach your goals. Don’t try to go through life alone—surround yourself with people who encourage and uplift you.

Here are a few questions:

  1. Who in my life is a source of support and encouragement?
  2. How can I show appreciation for the people who help lift me up?

Let us pray:

Lord, thank You for the friends and family who support me. Help me to appreciate and cherish them as they help me grow. Amen.

Please say these words of affirmation. Say them, mean them, own them and live them:

  • I acknowledge the support I need to get me to where I am going.
  • My friends and family are the wind beneath my sails, supporting me on my journey.
  • Kudos to me for recognizing the importance of support!"

Do have a beautiful day dear ones. Take good care of yourselves. I’ll see you tomorrow.

17-NOVEMBER-2024 - OVERCOMING DISTRACTIONS

THE MAIN THEME:  HOW DO I GET TO WHERE I AM GOING?

TITLE: OVERCOMING DISTRACTIONS

The bible verse for today’s devotional is: Proverb 4:25-27 (NIV)

Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you. Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways. Do not turn to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil.

Devotional:

The Latin root for the word distraction comes from dis- which means ‘apart’, and trahere, which means ‘drag’. In other words, anything that drags you apart from your vision and mission in life is a distraction.

Let’s look at some bible characters that fall for this demon called distraction: Eve was distracted by a conversation with the enemy which led to the fall of man. Abraham was distracted by fear, betraying his wife on two occasions.  David got distracted by pleasure which led to more sin of murder, destabilising his family and opening gates of immorality among his children. Samson, lost focus on his divine purpose, died alongside his enemies.

We give our distractions all sorts of names, but at the end of the day, distraction is anything that pulls our attention away from God. None of us is immune to distractions, nonetheless, how we respond to them is what matters.

The demon of distractions is interested in subtle tactics of making us feel vulnerable. As a child of God, you have the power to resist and guard your heart.

Presently, tech has made distraction much more common. We have more opportunities to be distracted through our cell phones, and other devices that offer endless hours of entertainment, making us consumers of content rather than become co-creators with God.

Our anchor scripture reminds us of the need to look straight ahead, fix our gaze directly on what is set before us. Give careful thought to our paths and be steadfast.

Here are a few reflective questions:

  • What are the subtle ways the enemy has used to put me off my focus?
  • What proactive measures can I take to guard my mind from distractions?

 Let us pray:

Lord thank you for your word to me today, I receive the power to avoid and overcome distractions guarding my heart with all diligence in Jesus name. Amen

Please say these words of affirmation: Say them mean, own them and live them--

  • I will not be distracted from where I am going.
  • am capable of guarding my heart from distractions
  • My eyes look straight ahead; I fix my gaze directly on my goals. I am steadfast and unmovable.
  • I am in control of my mind.

Have a focused filled day dear ones. I’ll  see you tomorrow

16-NOVEMBER-2024 - FOCUS DETERMINES DESTINATION

THE MAIN THEME:  HOW DO I GET TO WHERE I AM GOING?

TITLE: FOCUS DETERMINES DESTINATION

The bible verse for today’s devotional is: Hebrew 12:2 (NIV)

fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Devotional:

Focus is a life skill everyone should master. It is the selective and effortful attention you use to filter through the flood of sensory stimuli and narrow your attention to what is relevant.

We have read the stories of biblical characters that defied distractions to get to their desired destination e.g Noah, Joseph, Ruth, Esther, Nehemiah, Jesus

In Nehemiah 4: 1-23 Nehemiah remained remarkably focused on the task God had called him to do in spite of all the distractions. In fact, the more pressure that was applied to Nehemiah, the more determined and steadfast he became: He understood the devices, conspiracies and tricks of the enemy to stop the work, but rather than give excuses, he took action by setting a watch day and night against their enemies, equipping every builder with weapon while doing the work. He was focused and determined to rebuild the wall of Jerusalem and he achieved that.

When we stay focused on what God wants to do with us and through us, then He will give us the enabling power and staying power needed to accomplish our respective assignments.

Apostle Paul said “I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us” (Philippians 3:13-14, NLT)

Here are a few reflective questions:

  • Do I understand the “why” of pursuing my God given assignment in life?
  • My excuses may be valid, but do they deliver the desired results?
  • What do I need to remove from my environment to stay focused on my journey? It might be friends, TV series, devices, think about these things and more

 Let us pray

Lord thank you for your word to me today, I receive grace to guard my heart with all diligence. Help me to remain focused on my vision looking unto you the author and finisher of my faith in Jesus name. Amen

Please say these words of affirmation: Say them mean, own them and live them:

  • I will focus on where I am going.
  • I am in control of my mind; I focus on what is most important for my life journey
  • I choose my circle of friends wisely
  • I spend my time and energy on productive activities only

Enjoy your day and see you tomorrow

15-NOVEMBER-2024 - EMBRACING CHANGE - THE UNEXPECTED LIFE TWISTS

THE MAIN THEME:  HOW DO I GET TO WHERE I AM GOING?

TITLE:  EMBRACING CHANGE: THE UNEXPECTED LIFE TWISTS

The bible verse for today’s devotional is: 1 John 5:4 (NIV)

“for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.”

 Devotional:

Life being full of twists and turns is certainly an understatement. People have experiences of their own lives taking a twist here or a turn there.  These experiences might come in the form of losing a loved one, loss of a home, poor performance in school, diagnosis of a terminal disease, struggling with addiction, a shattered dream etc.

About two decades ago, I had just gotten married to my heartthrob, and still in the euphoria of a newlywed, when we woke up in the middle of the night to see that our flat was on fire from one of the rooms. We escaped for our lives in our nightwears, but lost everything we had including our certificates in that incident. Good neighbors gave us clothes and we moved to my brother-in-law's home.

As terrifying as some of those experiences were, none of them can be compared to the twists and turns in Mary’s life when she found out that she was pregnant with God’s son Luke 1:39-45.  What about Joseph the beloved of the father when he suddenly found himself as a slave in a foreign land unprotected and exposed to all kinds of maltreatment Gen 39:1-23

When faced with life unexpected twists, to get clarity and direction we need to go directly to our source God for guidance.  We need to confide in trusted adults who have been through such experience to help us regain perspective.

We can’t see the future, we don’t know what is going to happen next, but we belong to an overcoming family that has classified every experience as being common to man, declaring us more than conquerors.

My experiences with life unexpected twists did not break me, it made me seek to know God more for myself.  I am a living testimonial that challenges do not break us but exposes us to the amazing love God has for us.  We lost a flat some years back but today God has graciously given us ownership of buildings and other blessings to our amazement.

Put your trust in Him today, and watch Him turn unexpected life twists for your good.

Here are a few reflective questions:

  • Do I believe that all things are working for good?
  • Have I embraced God’s promises from His word to draw strength and comfort when faced with unexpected life twists?

 Let us pray:

Lord thank you for your word to me today, I release all my fears and worries today and I choose to believe and trust that you will come true for me as I journey through life with all its unexpected twist in Jesus name. Amen

Please say these words of affirmation: Say them mean, own them and live them-

  • No twist in life will stop me from getting to where I am going.
  • I overcome life's unexpected challenges by the blood and the word of my testimonies.
  • Even though I walk through the valley of shadow of death, I fear no evil
  • I am more than a conqueror.

Enjoy your day beautiful people, and I’ll see you tomorrow

14-NOVEMBER-2024 - ARE YOUR GOALS SMART

THE MAIN THEME:  HOW DO I GET TO WHERE I AM GOING?

 TITLE:  ARE YOUR GOALS SMART?

The bible verse for today’s devotional: Luke 14:28 (NIV)

Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it?

Devotional:

Getting to where you are going requires that you set a FAITH-BASED SMART GOALS: This requires that goals are specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time-bound.

Through prayers, you can specifically ask God for divine direction to the exact actions you need to take as goals are designed to help show you how to attain your vision.

When we prayerfully create a specific goal, we are rest assured that it will be meaningful to accomplishing God’s purpose for our lives.

When setting attainable goals, we need to use the eyes of faith, trusting in God’s capacity to provide all the resources we need to accomplish his work.  I once heard my mentor say that “God’s work done in God’s way does not lack resources”.   What makes goals attainable ranges from time, human resources, materials and money.  God is able to supply all our needs according to his riches in glory, and nothing is impossible to him that believes.

Our goals must be relevant to achieving our vision. Aligning our goals to the gifts and purpose God has graced us with is very key. Sometimes we struggle discerning whether it’s God’s time for us to execute our goals.  As we action our goals, we must be willing to surrender to his divine direction and instructions, pausing when he leads and continuing as he guides us, knowing fully well that all things are working together for our good.

Here are a few reflective questions:

  • Are my goals specific, to an extent that it could be measured when attained or not attained?
  • Do I believe that I can achieve my Goals and am I willing to commit to the success of my goals?

  Let us pray:

Lord thank you for your word to me today, I receive the grace to critically commit to setting a faith-based SMART goals, knowing that it is your will for me to succeed in all that I do to the glory of your name in Jesus’ name. Amen

Please say these words of affirmation: Say them. Mean them, own them and live them--

  • I know where I am heading to
  • I achieve whatever I set my mind on that is in accordance with your will
  • I am focused and determined

Do have a pleasant day beautiful souls, I’ll see you tomorrow.
