21-MAY-2025 - PERFECTION VS PROGRESS

THE MAIN THEME: FAILING FORWARD

TITLE: PERFECTION VS. PROGRESS

Our bible verse for today’s devotional is: Philippians 1:6 (NIV)
"Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus." –

Devotional:
Have you ever hesitated to start something because you feared it wouldn’t be perfect? Maybe you wanted to try out for a school competition, start a creative project, or even grow in your faith, but not doing it perfectly held you back. Many people struggle with “Perfectionist syndrome"—the idea that if something isn’t flawless before starting, it’s not worth doing.

The truth is, God never asked us to be perfect—He calls us to grow. Life is about making progress, not being perfect. Imagine a baby learning to walk. They don’t stand up and run immediately! They take small, wobbly steps and fall often but keep getting back up. In the same way, every step forward—no matter how small—is still progress.

Even in the Bible, God used imperfect people to accomplish His plans. Moses doubted himself, Peter denied Jesus, and Paul had a past of mistakes. But instead of waiting to be perfect, they trusted God and took steps of faith.

So, instead of striving for flawlessness, focus on growth. Celebrate small wins. Learn from mistakes. Keep moving forward. God is working in you, and progress—even slow—is still progress.

Here are a few reflective questions:

  1. Do I ever hold back from doing something because I fear it won’t be perfect?
  2. What small steps can I take today toward progress, even if imperfect?
  3. How can I remind myself that growth is more important than perfection?
  4. Who in my life encourages me to focus on progress rather than perfection?

Let us pray:
Dear Lord, help me to embrace progress over perfection. Teach me to value growth, even when it’s slow. Give me the courage to take steps forward, trusting that You shape me daily. Thank You for loving me, flaws and all. Amen.

Please say these words of affirmation after me. Say them, mean them, own them, and live them:

  1. I am growing every day, and that is enough.
  2. Progress, not perfection, is my goal.
  3. God is working in me, and I trust His process.
  4. I celebrate every step forward, no matter how small.

Take good care of yourself. I’ll see you tomorrow!
