13-NOVEMBER-2024 - MONEY MATTERS

THE MAIN THEME: HOW DO I GET TO WHERE I AM GOING?

TITLE: MONEY MATTERS

The quote for today’s devotional is:

“You can only become truly accomplished at something you love. Don’t make money your goal. Instead, pursue the things you love doing, and then do them so well that people can’t take their eyes off you.” — Maya Angelou

Devotional:

Let’s do a little game to check on how we see and what we think about money:

In the following questions, fill in the first thing that comes to your mind:

People with money are…..

Money makes people….

Money causes….

I am afraid that if I have more money I would…

I think money is….

My biggest fear about money is …

Observe your answers and replace the word ‘money’ with any regular tool e.g a hammer and read out your sentences again. How do you feel? From our exercise, we can see that when we think of money in the right way - as a tool to help us accomplish our goals, we would handle it better.

Money should be seen as a tool. A tool is a means or device to accomplish a task. The task in this case should be our goals which should be meaningful, impactful and smart.

Money is an important tool in a destiny toolkit but not the most important tool. It is required for many things therefore there is the need to be financially literate to make the best use of this tool to achieve our purpose on earth.

Money interestingly,  is also the reward for providing valuable goods and services to others.

So, how should we handle this tool to get the best out of it?

  1. First of all, have the right beliefs about money. You must realize money takes on the character of the person holding it, good or evil. Contentment is key!
  2. Money is a gift from God; we should be good stewards of this trust.
  3. Money should be used wisely - no hoarding, no wasting - budget, spend wisely, save, invest and remember to give.
  4. Be financially literate.

Here are a few reflective questions:

  • What do I understand about money?
  • How do I become financially literate?
  • Do I have skills that can earn me money?
  • What budgeting rule can I apply to my finances from today?
  • Do I have any savings?

 LET US PRAY:

Dear God, I thank you for giving us resources to meet our needs. Help me use money wisely in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Please say these words of affirmation. Say them, mean them, own them and live them:

  • My understanding of money will get me to where I am going.
  • I have the right relationship with money and I am content.
  • I manage my resources well and I always have more than enough.

Do have a fulfilling day. Take good care of yourself and see you tomorrow!
